Mindset Republic grew from moments in my life that changed what I understood about belief, human potential and the influence we have on one another.
I saw what belief can make possible.
My mum suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. Expectations of what her life could look like changed overnight. She refused to let a prognosis (or somebody else's idea of her limitations) define who she was or who she could still become. I watched her build a life beyond what others thought possible.
Other people can have expectations of you. They don't get to decide who you become.
Someone saw something in me before I did.
At a leadership conference, a room full of people were asked what they believed each person was uniquely good at. Their answer for me was unanimous: helping people feel capable. Helping them believe in themselves. I didn't know then what I would eventually build from that. But I never forgot it.
I realised belief wasn't only about me anymore.
Becoming a mum changed the question. I wasn't only responsible for challenging my own beliefs; I was helping shape the environment in which another person's beliefs about himself would begin. My job wasn't to choose his story. It was to help him believe he could choose it for himself.
Today he's a young adult who knows who he is, backs himself, leads others and owns his choices. Not my version of him. His.

Life keeps proving to me why belief matters. As the science of human behaviour and the brain continues to evolve, so does our understanding of what might be possible. The more I learn, the more curious I become. I'll be a student of life for the rest of mine.

Mindset Republic brings together two generations and two different perspectives. Laura brings more than 30 years of experience leading, mentoring and working with people. Banjo brings something equally important: the perspective of the generation we're asking to believe, choose and build what's next.
We won't always see things the same way. That's exactly the point.
Because if we're going to create something with the Next Generation in mind, they shouldn't just be part of the audience. They should be part of the conversation.
